Michael Moore recently participated in an interview with Larry King on King’s news show Larry King Live. Given Moore’s documentary Roger and Me which focuses on auto makers, King invited Moore to address the current crisis in the industry. The son of a Flint, Michigan automaker, Moore seems very knowledgeable of the auto industry and has a first-hand perspective. He addresses several issues:
- Government bailout does honor mis-management, but also saves jobs. He acknowledges the tension between the two.
- The chance that bailout money will be deployed outside of US in places like Mexico where both Ford and GM have manufacturing operations.
- Bailout’s effects on the new GM manufacturing plant currently being constructed in Russia just outside of St. Petersburg.
I am opposed to a bailout like the one being discussed, but do think that the government must take some measure to avoid economic calamity. Whether it’s something like what Moore proposes here or not, I really couldn’t say. He makes interesting points. Read more here.
