Most Anticipated Movies of 2009

Here is an incomplete list of the most anticipated movies of 2009. If you would like to see a more complete list you can find it by clicking here.

Terminator Salvation – A prequel to the Terminator series. Writer James Cameron is back. Christian Bale is playing the role of John Connor. Helena Bonham Carter. Bryce Dallas Howard. Although not a big sci-fi fan, I’ve come to appreciate this franchise more and more.

The Soloist – Really thought this one would release in 2008, but I’m still looking forward to seeing this Robert Downey Jr./Jamie Foxx release.

Where The Wild Things Are – Based on the children’s book, I can’t help but wonder, “How are they going to do this?” It’ll be directed by Spike Jonze—the same guy that brought us Being John Malkovich and Adaptation.

X-Men: Origins – The fifth in the X-Men franchise, this release will explore how Wolverine came to be. I saw the trailer recently and it looks like it’s going to be pretty good. I’ve liked the X-Men movies—haven’t loved them.

Watchmen – One of the most anticipated movies on the list. Based on the successful graphic novel, trailers are starting to make their rounds on television as we look for a March 6 release.

Shutter IslandMartin Scorsese. Leonardo DiCaprio. Michelle Williams. Max Von Sydrow. And an actor I’m coming to like a lot: Mark Ruffalo. Sounds like a really great story, too.

Public Enemies – One of my favorite directors, Michael Mann, is at it again this year. This time in a 1930s period piece chronicling the feds against the likes of Dillinger and Baby Face Nelson et al with Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Billy Crudup. Look for Public Enemies to release July 1.

The InformantMatt Damon stars in this September Steven Soderbergh release. Even though it’s another “one of those” government conspiracy gigs, if it’s Soderbergh then it’s got to be good.

The Girlfriend Experience – Another 2009 Soderbergh movie. The last time he directed two in the same year it was Traffic and Erin Brockovich. Could lightning strike twice? The Girlfriend Experience is a comedy starring a lot of people I have not heard of.

Taking the Pelham 123 – Releasing in June, this movie seems like a sure thing. Tony Scott—Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, and one of my favorite movies of the last few years—The Assassination of Jesse James—directs John Travolta and Denzel Washington in this re-make.
